This is a prompt for a genre analysis assignment I’ve used in a 308J course that also might work well for 384J. I have students read articles on Genre which we then use to have discussions of genre theory in class prior to giving this assignment. Students tend to think of Genre only as types or categories, so this assignment and the relevant discussions help to enrich their understanding of genre as social/cultural conventional interactions.
