Greg Myers

Description

Greg Myers, currently a Professor of Rhetoric and Communication at Lancaster University in the United Kingdom, earned a BA from Pomona College and a PhD from Columbia. The details of Dr. Myers’s childhood, adolescence, and young adulthood are shrouded in mystery despite having once taught at UT Austin. His current work focuses a great deal on media and what he calls the “social context of written academic texts, especially in science, treating such issues as politeness, cohesion, narrative structure, commonplaces, and illustration, drawing on the frameworks from the sociology of scientific knowledge.” His current research projects include an empirical study exploring connections between “an awareness of global citizenship” and the environment. His books include Writing Biology: Texts in the Social Construction of Science (1990), Words in Ads (1994), Ad Worlds: Brands, Media, Audiences (1998), and Matters of Opinion: Talking about Public Issues (2004). He has a forthcoming book titled Discourse of Blogs and Wikis, which he discusses on his own blog, The Language of Blogs, at http://thelanguageofblogs.typepad.com/
