Lee-Ann M. Kastman Breuch

Description

Lee-Ann M. Kastman Breuch received her Ph.D. in English with a specialization in Rhetoric and Professional Communication from Iowa State University (Ames, IA) in 1998.  She is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Writing Studies at the University of Minnesota, where she teaches courses in first-year writing, technical communication, computer pedagogy, teacher training, and usability testing.  Her research generally addresses writing theory and pedagogy in technological, compositional, and online environments, though she is particularly interested in the issues involved in the evaluation of online instruction.  She is a former director of the Online Writing Center, which is an online tutorial service offered by the University of Minnesota.  Her newest project is the development of an online writing workshop that would allow rhetoric students to work in small groups, view each other’s papers online, comment on each other’s work and chat electronically from all over the world. It would facilitate collaboration among different courses and in different contexts. Dr. Breuch’s educational goal is to create an online writing community that serves to improve the quality of the participants’ writing rather than simply building relationships.
