Professing Multiculturalism

Description

Min-Zhan Lu first published “Professing Multiculturalism: The Politics of Style in the Contact Zone,” in the December of 1994 issue of College Composition and Communication. In the nineties, composition studies gained considerable stature as a field of research. In 1994, according to Fulkerson’s Composition Studies, the term post-process was first coined by John Trimbur and Anthony Pare. With the emergence of multimodality and visual rhetoric, students were arguing with more than written words. According to CIPHER, nearly half of writing faculty was part-time (US economy in recession, unemployment high—especially in English—from 1992-97). In 1992, NCTE established Guidelines for Review and Evaluation of English Language Arts. The following events occurred in 1994: Existence of black holes in space proved. Los Angeles suffers massive earthquake. Oldest Human Remains Found. Nixon Died at the age of 81. Michael Jackson weds Elvis’ daughter, Lisa Marie. Hit TV Show Friends was released. Brazil Wins 1994 World Cup.
