ENG 591A: Teaching College English II
Day: M/W; Time: 12:10pm - 2:00pm, 12:10pm - 1:00pm; Room: Ellis 119
Instructor: Sherrie Gradin
Course Description
This is the second course in the sequence (following 591) required of all first-year teaching associates. It is designed to provide further theoretical exploration in the field of rhetoric and composition, provide further development and pedagogical assistance for T.A.s teaching in our program, and to offer T.A.s one-on-one observations followed by evaluations and support in improving their teaching. While 591A meets only three hours per week it is reading and writing intensive and students should bear this in mind as they register for their other graduate courses.
Course Readings
- Final choices have not been made at the time of the printing of the booklet. However, there will more likely be a course packet and further reading from assigned texts in 591.
Course Exams and Assignments
- Observation mentoring groups
- Collaborative Textbook Review Project
- Informal writing assignments
- 2-3 other (not terrifically long) writing projects (e.g. statement of teaching philosophy)
