Course Description
This course will look at both the historical essay and at contemporary pairings to see how the essay impulse has continued and transformed.
Course Readings
- We will likely use G. Douglas Atkins' Reading Essays as our primary text. Other readings might include Montaigne, Bacon, Hazlitt, Swift, Thoreau, Woolf, Didion, Orwell, Baldwin, and others. Student creative work will be involved as well.
