Writers Harvest Schedule

The Writers Harvest will take place at 7:30 pm, Oct. 9th in the Baker Center Theater. All proceeds from the $5 admission donation go to the Southeastern Ohio Food Bank's Second Harvest.

2012 Writer’s Harvest


Three renowned local writers will read from their work at a benefit reading hosted by Ohio University’s Program in Creative Writing, at 7:30pm, Tuesday, Oct. 9th in the Baker Center Theater, with a reception following in the alcove outside the theater. The benefit is part of Writer's Harvest, the nation’s largest reading series working to help fight hunger.




Kevin Haworth's new collection is Famous Drownings in Literary History:Essays on 21st Century Jewishness. He is the author of the novel The Discontinuity of Small Things and editor, with Dinty W. Moore, of Lit From Within: Contemporary Masters on the Art and Craft of Writing. He teaches at Ohio University and is executive editor of Ohio University Press & Swallow Press.


Becca J.R. Lachman teaches and tutors writing at Ohio University. She is currently editing a poetry anthology inspired by the life and work of American poet William Stafford to honor his 2014 Centennial. She has published a book of poems, The Apple Speaks (Cascadia Publishing House, 2012) and a chapbook, "Songs from the Springhouse" (Verdure Publications, 2004). A recent finalist for Ruminate Magazine's Janet B. McCabe poetry prize, Becca also received the 2011 Otterbein University Young Alumni Creativity and Research Award. She is a grateful graduate of the Bennington Writing Seminars (MFA) and the Ohio University Department of English (MA).


Patrick O'Keeffe's collection of long stories, The Hill Road (Viking Penguin), received the 2005 Story Prize. He was a Barnes and Noble Discovery pick, and has received a Whiting Award for fiction writing. His work has appeared in the Irish Times, Doubletake, and the Michigan Quartely Review. A novel, The Visitors (Viking Penguin), will be published in 2013. O'Keeffe teaches fiction at Ohio University



UPDATE: Last year's Writers Harvest raised $1300 for the local food bank and our goal this year is $1500.


All proceeds from the $5 admission donation will go to the Southeastern Ohio Food Bank’s Second Harvest, a food distribution program serving Athens, Hocking, Perry, Lawrence, Vinton, Jackson, Gallia, Meigs, Morgan and Washington counties. Donations will be accepted in various locations throughout the week.
