Curriculum Vitae
Ghirmai Negash is Assistant Professor of English & African Literature at Ohio University and associate director of the Center for African Studies. He earned his Ph.D. from Leiden University, the Netherlands. He was the founder and formerly chair of the Department of Eritrean Languages and Literature at the University of Asmara, Eritrea, and the Assistant Editor of the Journal of Eritrean Studies. His research interests include African literatures from the Horn and South Africa, critical theory, translation, and orality studies. His publications include A History of Tigrinya Literature in Eritrea (Leiden University-CNWS, 1999); Who Needs a Story? (Hidri-Michigan State, 2006), co-edited and translated with Charles Cantalupo; The Freedom of the Writer & Other Cultural and Literary Essays, in Tigrinya (Trenton, NJ.: Africa World Press, 2006), and several articles, including in forthcoming editions of the Journal of African Literature Association, and Research in African Literatures.
