Welcome to the Undergraduate Programs in English
Current students at Ohio University who choose to major or minor in English will be enrolled by default in the appropriate quarters-based curriculum.
The English Major
We now offer three major codes: English (BA5231), Creative Writing (BA5232), and Pre-Law (BA5234). Major requirements for these programs can be seen here.
Students entering the university after summer 2012 who major in English will all have the same major code (BA5231), but will have the opportunity to shape and tailor their degree by focusing their coursework in one or more of four areas of concentration: Literary History; Creative Writing; Cultures, Rhetoric, and Theory; or Pre-Law. This new, semesters-based curriculum is also open to current OHIO students who are just beginning their English degree.
Checklists for the major and brief descriptions of each concentration can be seen here.
The list of extra-departmental electives for the Pre-Law concentration is available here.
All English majors will also fulfill the liberal arts requirements of the College of Arts & Sciences and University general education requirements.
